1. Understand your plants
This is a key aspect to keeping your plants alive and beautiful. With very little or no knowledge about the plants you have in your compound is more than dangerous for you and your plants. Take time to learn the behavior of your plants. Know how much water they demand and other conditions. This will help a so especially as you maintain them. Let the plants in your compound be a part of you.
2. Have the right tools
This is crucial because I learnt homes that have the landscaping tools seem to have better maintained landscapes than the others. In compound design and maintenance it is not just doing the work it is how the work is done that can produce beauty. For example watering lawn (grass) people who use sprinklers will get better results than people who use say a bucket.

3. DO NOT water everyday
Frequent and short watering can be bad for plants because it promotes shallow root growth instead of the deep, healthy roots that develop when they get a good soak. Deep roots absorb more water and nutrients with less effort, which leads to heartier plants. Ideally, soaking your plants should be done about once every seven to ten days depending on weather and soil conditions.
4. Be critical about Lawn/Grass
Lawn/Grass is one of the most sensitive and thirstiest plant life in your landscape. It is easy to be stressed by simple unfavorable conditions. This can lead to loss of green, and can even end up drying your lawn. Be critical to know to change of color of your lawn before you begin to lose it. If you notice change study the soil in that given area. This could be because of a number of reason such as lack of consistent watering and watering in the right way.
5. Understand your soil
Most people take soil for granted and yet it is the most important. Clay soil tends to be tightly packed, is difficult for water to penetrate, and can make it hard for roots to grow. It does retain water fairly well, so if your soil is full of clay, you may need to water less frequently. When soil is sandy, water flows through it and evaporates faster, so it requires more moisture to keep plants strong. with vast understanding of your soil you will be able to make it healthy as possible.
6. Pay attention to the time of day, weather, and the season
It’s typically a good idea to water in the morning, as the sun will dry plant leaves quickly. This lowers the chances of plant attack by fungus or diseases that spread in wet conditions. Be sure to check forecasts when planning your watering schedule, and don’t water right before or after a substantial downpour.
7. Finally have have your personal landscaper friend.
You will need to be friend a landscaper that has the right knowledge about plant behavior, soil changes and weather and seasons, this always saves people loss of money in a long run.
